Requirements before you place anything

You need a male and a female of the same species in the same pack. Mixed-species friend groups can travel together for safety, but they cannot fulfill the nesting pair rule. Both players should already understand diet and biome needs from getting started and biomes so the nest site is not a death pit for babies.

Pack leadership matters:

• If the male is Patriarch, he must promote the female to the Elder role before nesting is allowed.
• If the female is Matriarch, she can nest after inviting a male without granting that male Elder.

Forgetting Elder promotion is the number one social ticket in voice chats. Confirm roles in the pack UI before farming a mountain of carcasses for deposits.

Recode nesting zones (Cretaceous Upland)

Choosing a nest site

Pick habitat that matches the species’ Temperature and food. A nest in a climate that burns Temperature Wellbeing will produce eggs into a life already taxed by Wellbeing penalties. Food deposits and eggs

Pack members can contribute food to the nest, spending their own hunger to stock it. That food can be converted into eggs; each egg consumes a chunk of stored food. Resist the urge to let starving packmates endlessly snack the nest dry if your goal is a full clutch—emergency eating is fine, but it competes with egg production.

Once eggs exist (even a partial clutch), you can invite players to be nested. Invited players who accept spawn into the pack at the nest as the same dinosaur, using a skin they own when possible. If they lack the exact skin, the game falls back to default or another owned skin. If they do not own the dinosaur species at all, they cannot accept that nest spawn.

Always verify ownership before coordinating a nesting event. “We will buy it after” wastes everyone’s food clock.

Social Wellbeing and pack discipline

Nesting pairs should watch Social icons. Pack-preferring dinosaurs gain damage and Amber upsides from healthy Social; solitary-preferring animals may want fewer bodies crowding the nest. Set expectations: who guards, who gathers, who cleans, who sleeps on watch schedules. Energy Wellbeing still requires rest and sleep—new parents who never press R/Z will stall growth even with full nest food.

Growth to adult or elder, time in territory, and nesting-related progression often feed Mastery point tasks. If your group is pushing stage rewards or discounts, keep one eye on growth and Mastery while eggs incubate. Nesting is content, not only cosmetics.

Security and PvP around nests

Invite etiquette that saves friendships

Troubleshooting nesting blocks

• Cannot nest as Patriarch male: promote female to Elder.
• Female Matriarch still blocked: confirm a male of the same species is actually in the pack.
• Eggs not appearing: deposit enough food and complete the convert-to-egg step rather than only dumping meat.
• Invite fails: guest lacks species ownership.
• Skin looks wrong: fallback ownership rules applied—have them equip an owned skin beforehand when possible.
• Babies dying instantly: nest placed in bad temperature or high-traffic PvP; relocate using biome knowledge.
